NAUGATUCK — The borough is considering selling advertising space on tax bills.

Controller Allison Bruce presented the idea to the Board of Mayor and Burgesses on Oct. 3. She said the ads sold would offset the cost of printing and mailing tax bills.

According to Bruce, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles includes advertisements on its car tax bills.

Burgess Dorothy Hoff expressed concerns that people might be confused if they receive a bill with ads on it.

“The only thing that concerns me is that it continue to look like a tax bill and not like junk mail,” Hoff said.

Bruce said she would come back before the board with more information. The board is expected to discuss and make a decision on the matter during its November meeting.
