PROSPECT – The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special permit for Dependable Energy to install two 30,000 gallon liquid propane tanks at 13 Grammar Avenue.

The tanks would be used by the company and to wholesale to competitors.

The tanks met all fire safety and land use requirements from the town.

Glen Noble of Dependable Energy presented a letter from the fire marshal stating the tanks were in compliance with fire codes.

The 1/2 inch steel tanks would be set back 25 feet from the road and be protected by a chain link fence topped with barbed wire and security lights at night.

Liquid propane turns to gas as soon as it contacts air, so if there were a leak, Dependable Energy would detect it by odor, Noble said.
