NAUGATUCK — The United Way of Naugatuck & Beacon Falls will honor Stephen Pretto with the organization’s Mary H. Connolly Community Caring Award.
The award recognizes an individual or individuals who have demonstrated outstanding support to the organization and the entire community, and have set the standard for service to the community.
Pretto, 54, has been involved with the United Way for about 10 years, ever since his good friend, Marcelo Martins, introduced him to United Way of Naugatuck & Beacon Falls Executive Director Lisa Shappy.
Pretto said when he learned how many agencies and people the United Way helps and impacts he knew it was an organization he wanted to dedicate his time to and stay involved with.
“It kind of fueled it,” he said.
Pretto, who is the chief financial officer for the Goldenrod Corporation in Beacon Falls, has served on the United Way Board of Directors for over seven years and is presently the secretary. He also has served on the campaign team and as chairman of the allocations and golf tournament committees.
Pretto will be honored at the United Way’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner April 4 at the Crystal Room, 98 School St. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets for the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner are $50 per person. For information or tickets, call the United Way office at 203-729-1564.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be added to the list of recipients, from Mary Connolly on down,” Pretto said.
Pretto and his wife, Susan, live in the Prospect. Aside from the United Way, Pretto is also involved with the East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue organization and the Naugatuck YMCA, where he’s serving on the Beacon Falls Initiative.
The United Way will also present its Silver Bowl Award to Diversified Financial Solutions at the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The award honors the business with the largest increase in employee giving, corporate giving and participation in the United Way’s annual campaign over the past year.
