Power outage update

Connecticut Light and Power is pushing towards a deadline of power Sunday night as many area residents enter their sixth day without power.

Around 430,000 customers remained without power statewide as of 11:30 a.m. In Prospect, 1,111 CL&P customers were still waiting to see power restored, along with 2,315 in Naugatuck, and 1,064 in Beacon Falls, according to CL&P’s website.

In a press release issued this morning, CL&P reported that 1,500 line and tree crews were working throughout Connecticut today. Seven of those crews are working in Naugatuck today, Mayor Robert Mezzo reported on his blog.

“We understand the severity of this situation and still expect to have 99 percent of our customers back on line by Sunday night,” said Jeff Butler, CL&P’s president and chief operating officer, in a press release. “With additional crews coming in today, we expect to continue to make steady progress.”

Mezzo wrote that three crews are finishing restoration on Millville Avenue and Hoadley Street before moving to the Wooster Street, Wooster Street, Maple Hill, May Street, Lewis Street, Andrew Avenue and Mulberry Street circuits.
Three more crews are working on the Golden Hill Street and Spring Street circuits, Mezzo wrote.

The last crew is working on the Clark Hill Road portion of the New Haven Road circuit.

Andrew Avenue Elementary School, at 140 Andrew Avenue, will remain open as an overnight shelter tonight, with hot meals being served beginning at 5 p.m. City Hill Middle School be open until 5 p.m. tonight as a shower and cell-phone charging station, Mezzo wrote. The Howard Whittemore Library and Naugatuck Senior Center are also open as warming stations, offering snacks and beverages. Any resident in need of transportation to the shelter may call the Naugatuck Fire Department at 203-720-7082, or 203-720-7083, if there is no answer.

Naugatuck and Region 16 schools are closed for the fourth day in a row. Naugatuck will also be closed tomorrow. No decision has been made on tomorrow’s school in Region 16.
