NAUGATUCK — Police are investigating “creepy clown” posts on social media mentioning Naugatuck schools.

In one post, someone with the handle “KillAllTheseBitches,” wrote “Naugatuck is our favorite place to be,” followed by a purple devil emoji and a photo of some evil-looking clowns.

In another post, “Jackson the Clown” wrote “Will be in Naugatuck (lollipop emoji) Be careful (suspicious eyes emoji) lock your doors (crying/laughing face emoji) Which school want to go first? (pondering face emoji).”

Some members of the Naugatuck school community wrote on Twitter and Facebook that they felt threatened by the posts.

“Based on our investigation these posts contained information that we do not believe to be credible, however the Naugatuck police are thoroughly investigating these posts and any persons connected to them,” Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said.

He said police have been talking to the superintendent’s office and Board of Education. As a precautionary measure, there is added security and police presence at all Naugatuck schools today.

Incidents involving “creepy clowns” are increasing around the country. In some cases people have reported seeing people dressed as clowns in random areas or reported being threatened by someone dressed as a clown. Last week, a school district in Ohio closed for a day after a woman reported being attacked by someone dressed as a clown who threatened her and the schools, according to reports.

Anyone with information regarding the posts concerning Naugatuck schools should contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.
