NAUGATUCK — State police have been called in to the borough to investigate a report that a man posing as a Naugatuck police officer sexually assaulted a woman.
According to a release issued by Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance, at about 12 p.m. on Wednesday, the victim was driving a green jeep in the area of Gorman Street and Lewis Street when a brown and tan Ford Crown Victoria with blue and red flashing lights on its dashboard pulled her over.
The male driver of the car appeared to possibly be a police officer, the release stated. The suspect was wearing dark navy blue pants, and a navy blue polo shirt with the words “Naugatuck” and “police” embroidered above a left breast pocket. The man was also wearing a utility belt with a flash light and what appeared to be handcuffs, the release stated.
The man told the woman to get out of the jeep, and the victim reported that after getting out the man sexually assaulted her where she was pulled over. Vance said the woman was not injured.
The suspect was described as a white male between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with an average build, blond curly hair swept to the side, and a big bulbous nose in his late 20s or early 30s, clean shaven with hairy blond arms. The suspect was also wearing white Adidas sneakers and black frame sunglasses, with multi-colored lenses.
The release stated the description doesn’t match or resemble any members of the Naugatuck Police Department, and the Crown Victoria isn’t a borough police vehicle.
The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad is conducting the investigation at the request of the police department and Waterbury State’s Attorney office.
On Friday afternoon, Vance declined to say whether police have any suspects in the case. “We’re actively pursuing leads and information,” Vance said.
Vance said there have been no other similar cases reported in the area.
State police are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect or victim’s vehicle anywhere in the area of Gorman Street and Lewis Street at the time of the incident, who may have potentially been a victim of the suspect, or has any information regarding this case to call state police Troop I at (203) 393-4200 or (800) 842-0200.
