NAUGATUCK — Four borough stores were caught selling tobacco to minors Saturday during unannounced compliance inspections.
The Naugatuck Police Department and state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services conducted 16 compliance inspections on stores that sell tobacco products in all, according to a news release issued by the police department.
Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS investigators, an underage youth, employed by the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, entered the stores and attempted to purchase tobacco products.
The four stores that sold tobacco to the youth were Mobil, 469 Rubber Ave., Cumberland Farms, 69 Rubber Ave., Family Market, 129 Rubber Ave., and Sid Mart, 73 Bridge St., according to the release.
The offending clerks at these stores were issued a $200 infraction. The Cigarette Dealer License Holder at each store also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services, the release stated.
The following businesses were found to be in compliance with the law: 7 Eleven Store, 801 Rubber Ave., Stop & Save Citgo, 711 Rubber Ave., Viges Convenience Store, 704 Rubber Ave., Cork & Keg, 430 Rubber Ave., DP Mart, 1419 New Haven Road, Sunoco, 1059 New Haven Road, Citgo, 800 New Haven Road, Crosspoint Liquors, 799 New Haven Road, Cumberland Farms, North Main Street at Woodbine Street, BP, North Main Street, D&D Liquors, 143 Bridge St., and CVS Pharmacy, 98 Bridge St.
