Police seek public’s help to find suspect

NAUGATUCK — Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a suspect wanted for stabbing a borough teen last week.

According to a press release issued by Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Robert Harrison, the department is currently holding an active arrest warrant for 32-year-old Joseph Gay in connection with the incident. Gay’s last known address was 22 Barnum Court.

On July 30, police responded to Rubber Avenue in the area of Church Street shortly before 9 p.m. to find a 16-year-old borough teen, who had been stabbed multiple times in the chest and back. According police, the teen was involved in a dispute with another male that evening. The release stated he was stabbed on Barnum Court.

The teen was transported to Waterbury Hospital and later taken to Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital, according to police.

The warrant charges Gay with assault in the first degree and procuring liquor for a minor. Harrison could not be reached for further comment as of this post.
