NAUGATUCK—Borough police are searching for suspects who stole on ATM from a gas station after driving a car through the front of the store.

Shortly before 4 a.m. on May 25, police responded to a burglary at the Mobil Gas Station on Rubber Avenue. Police said the suspects used a car to crash through the front of the store and steal the ATM. The car used to drive into the store was reported stolen earlier in the night from Waterbury, police said.

After stealing the ATM, police said, the suspects fled east on Rubber Avenue in two separate cars. An officer spotted the two speeding cars and attempted to chase them down, police said.

The officer lost sight of one of the cars when it turned onto Old Fire House road, police said. The second car, police said, stopped in the General Datacom parking lot and three suspects ran from the scene on foot.

The ATM was recovered in the car left in the General Datacom parking lot. The car and the ATM are currently being processed for evidence, police said.

A police dog was brought it to track the fleeing suspects, but the scent was lost around train tracks near the Naugatuck River, police said.

At around 6 a.m., police received a report of a car stolen from Maple Street. The stolen car was involved in an accident in Waterbury, police said, and police believe the theft is related to the burglary.

Police described two of the suspects as white males, with thin to medium builds, wearing dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts or jackets. One of the suspects had the number “77” on the left side of what appeared to be the dark hooded parka that he was wearing, police said.
