NAUGATUCK — Borough police charged a Winsted man with robbing the Cumberland Farms on North Main Street.

Frank Warner, 44, of 114 West Road, Winsted was arrested Friday and charged in connection with a robbery that occurred the same day at about 12:35 a.m.

An employee of the store at 527 North Main St. reported to police that a man, later identified as Warner, was buying candy at the store, police reported. When the employee opened the cash register, Warner reached over the counter, stole money from the register then ran out of the store, police said. He fled the scene in a car on Route 8 north, police said.

The employee provided police with a description of the car and a partial license plate number. The car was determined to be stolen, police said.

Naugatuck detectives were following up with the investigation in Waterbury Friday morning when they spotted Warner driving the stolen car, police said. The detectives followed the car and alerted Waterbury police. Warner was arrested a short time later, police said.

Warner was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree criminal trover. He was held on a $250,000 and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Monday.
