NAUGATUCK — Borough police are seeking the public’s help to find the driver of a red Dodge Ram pick up truck who lead police on a late-night chase.

According to a press release issued by the Naugatuck Police Department, an officer observed the truck traveling east on Candee Road at a high rate of speed and crossing the center line at about 12:15 a.m. this morning. The license plate on the truck was reported stolen out of Waterbury, police said.

When the officer attempted to stop the truck, the driver turned onto Kingswood Drive and stopped in the driveway of 398 Kingswood Drive, police said. The driver, who police described as a white male, then slowly drove across the lawn and sped up suddenly almost hitting the police cruiser and damaging the lawn.

The driver fled west on Candee Road onto New Haven Road and then onto Beacon Valley Road, police said. On Cotton Hollow Road the driver came across two other officers and didn’t brake or slow down, causing the two officers to drive off the road, police said.

The pursuit then continued onto Cross Street. The driver attempted to get onto Route 8 north at exit 25 but veered off the shoulder onto the grassy area nearby, police said. The driver got back onto the onramp, striking a police cruiser in the process and causing extensive damage to the car, police said.

The driver never slowed or stopped and the pursuit was terminated at the Waterbury town line, police said.

The police department is seeking assistance in locating the red Dodge Ram and identifying the operator of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at (203) 729-5222 or leave a message on the Anonymous Tip Line at (203) 720-1010.
