NAUGATUCK — A half-acre brush fire near the fourth hole at Hop Brook Golf Course on Monday may have been intentionally set, fire officials said.

“The cause is undetermined at this time, but considered suspicious,” Capt. Vincent Healy said.

Smoke was easily visible in the area, and four people called the department at about 5 p.m., Healy said.

Three firefighters hosed down the six- to eight-inch flames, which were spreading quickly above a gas line, Healy said.

The fire was out about 15 minutes after the crew arrived, before the flames reached vent pipes, Healy said.

No one was injured, he said.
