NAUGATUCK — Police have arrested two men as part of the investigation into the fall of a Stratford man from a fourth floor window.

Matthew Chandler, 20, and Kyle Gonzalez, 20, both of Naugatuck are facing charges in connection with an early Wednesday morning incident that left Salomon Martinez, 24, in critical condition.

Police received an anonymous call at 2:27 a.m. on Wednesday reporting someone had fallen out of a window at 8 Pond St., a multi-family apartment building. When police arrived Martinez was found lying on the sidewalk next to the building with serious head and body injuries.

As of Thursday afternoon, Martinez remained in critical condition at Waterbury Hospital.

Both men were charged Thursday with assault in the first degree and conspiracy at assault in the first degree.

Gonzalez was also charged Wednesday with assault in the second degree in connection with a separate assault that occurred in the same apartment that Martinez fell from around the same time.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, in this assault suffered severe swelling to the left side of his face due to the assault but was not hospitalized, Naugatuck police spokesman Bryan Cammarata said. The man, who was not identified, didn’t live in the building, Cammarata said.

Police are still investigating what occurred in the apartment and the events leading up to Martinez’s fall. No further details were released.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Naugatuck detectives at (203) 729-7106.
