Police, DCF investigating after child found wandering alone


NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck police and the Department of Children and Families are investigating the circumstances that led up to a 2-year-old boy wandering Ward Street alone early Friday morning.

Police responded to Ward Street at about 4:30 a.m. after someone found the child walking along the street alone. With help from residents, police were able to locate the child’s home and parents. The child wasn’t injured, police said.

Deputy Police Chief C. Colin McAllister said it took officers about 30 minutes to locate the child’s home. He said police are working with DCF to investigate whether there’s any criminal aspect to the incident. No criminal charges had been filed as of Friday.

McAllister said police had no immediate concerns for the child’s safety and the boy is with his parents.
