NAUGATUCK — Three Waterbury teenagers were arrested Monday night and charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Naugatuck girl.

The assault occurred Monday evening in a wooded area near the victim’s home shortly before 7:40 p.m., police said.

According to Lt. Bryan Cammarata, the victim casually knows one of the boys. He said they were hanging out together Monday when they were joined by two of the boy’s friends. The four teens walked into a wooded area together and ended up in a secluded spot where the attack occurred, Cammarata said.

The victim returned home and told her mother she had been sexually assaulted by three white teenagers. The victim gave a description of the suspects, and police located them a short time later near the wooded area.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

The three suspects, each 14 years old, were arrested and charged with sexual assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a child. The three teenagers, whose names were not released due to their age, were taken to the juvenile detention center in Bridgeport and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Juvenile Court Tuesday.
