Police charge pair with robbery

NAUGATUCK — Two borough men were arrested over the weekend in connection to a reported armed robbery.

Police responded to 90 Aetna St. for a robbery report at about 11:22 a.m. on Saturday. According to police, the victim and a friend were home when Preston Britt, 26, and Louis Lewis, 22, arrived at the house.

Police reported Britt, who the victim knew, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the victim. The victim gave Britt money. The victim’s friend pulled out a knife and began fighting with Lewis, police reported. Lewis took the knife from the victim’s friend, who cut his neck during the fight, police said.

Britt and Lewis fled the scene and the victim called police. Police located Britt and Lewis driving on High Street, where they were pulled over and taken into custody, police said.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata could not be reached for further information.

Britt, of 65 Morning Mist Road, was charged with first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, sixth-degree larceny, illegal possession of 4 or more ounces of marijuana, conspiracy at first-degree robbery, conspiracy at second-degree assault and conspiracy at sixth-degree larceny.

Lewis, of 200 North Hoadley St., was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, illegal possession of 4 or more ounces of marijuana, conspiracy at first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and conspiracy at sixth-degree larceny.

Both men were held on a $500,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court today.
