NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the stabbing of a Naugatuck teen last summer.

Joseph Gay, of 4 Mary St., Norwalk, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday and charged with assault in the first degree and procuring liquor for a minor.

On July 30, police responded to Rubber Avenue at Church Street shortly before 9 p.m. to find a then 16-year-old borough teen suffering from multiple stab wounds to his chest, back and arm. The teen was transported to Waterbury Hospital and later taken to Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital for treatment.

According to a press release issued by police, the victim told police he met with Gay, who purchased alcohol and a tobacco product for him. The victim stated the two later became involved in an argument that resulted in the stabbing, police said.

The stabbing occurred at a Barnum Court apartment where Gay was staying at the time, police said, and the teen left the apartment after the stabbing. He was found lying in the road.

Shortly after the stabbing, police issued a release seeking the public’s help to locate Gay. He was finally arrested this week after he was located by U.S. Marshalls at a residence in Bridgeport, police said. A tip led to the whereabouts of Gay, police said.

According to online records, Gay was arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court Tuesday and held on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again March 27.
