NAUGATUCK — A 49-year-old borough man was arrested Wednesday for firing off multiple gunshots within his Aetna Street apartment.
Absalom Rowe, of 121 Aetna St. 2 floor left, is facing multiple charges after police responded to a report a gunshots fired in the Aetna Street neighborhood at about 10:15 p.m. last night.
According to a release issued by the Naugatuck Police Department, officers responded to a complaint from residents at 129 Aetna St. that a bullet was shot into their apartment. Officers on the scene observed a bullet hole in the bedroom of the apartment.
The residents reported they heard Rowe, their neighbor, yelling obscenities. According to the release, when the residents were looking out their bedroom window, they heard what sounded like a gunshot and the husband felt debris hit his legs. The residents then saw the bullet hole in their bedroom wall approximately one foot from where they were standing, police said. Their 3-year-old son was also in the next room.
No one in the apartment was injured.
During the investigation, officers located Rowe in his apartment across the street in a highly intoxicated state. Rowe denied hearing any gunshots, police said, but officers saw spent shell casings, live ammunition and a loaded 9mm handgun on the floor.
Further investigation revealed that Rowe had started shooting the gun on Tuesday, but police never received any reports of gun shots. In all, police said, eight bullet holes were found on the scene — seven at 121 Aetna St. and one at 129 Aetna St.
Of the seven shots found inside Rowe’s apartment, police said, three of them entered the apartment adjacent to Rowe’s, 121 Aetna St. 2 floor right, where additional children were present.
Rowe was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, eight counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol, four counts of risk of injury to children, and breach of peace. He is currently being held on a $50,000 surety bond.
Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Robert Harrison could not be reached for further comment as of this post.
