NAUGATUCK — Police from the borough and Middlebury arrested a 33-year-old Southwood Apartments man Tuesday on a slew of drug charges, including the sale of crack cocaine in Middlebury.

Police from both towns set up a video surveillance system to catch Adam Strong, of Apartment 6-O at 933 Rubber Ave., selling drugs on Straits Turnpike, said Richard Wildman, acting chief of the Middlebury Police Department. Police had been investigating Strong since August after receiving tips about him in July, Wildman said.

Strong had been selling in the 800 and 900 block of Straits Turnpike, near the Drubner Center and Maggie McFly’s, Wildman said. He did not have information on how much crack cocaine Strong is accused of selling.

Middlebury and Naugatuck police obtained a warrant charging Strong with possessing crack cocaine and selling it near a school. Naugatuck police found Strong sitting in a car Tuesday at about 3:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven on Rubber Avenue, said Lt. Bryan Cammarata of the Naugatuck Police Department.

Police said they also had a warrant to search Strong’s apartment and his 2005 Acura. Upon doing so, police said they found oxycodone pills, marijuana and suboxone, prompting additional drug possession charges. The car and an unspecified amount of cash were seized, according to police.

Strong was released on bonds totaling $350,000 to appear Oct. 23 in Waterbury Superior Court.

Officer Al Cronin was Middlebury’s lead investigator, and Sgt. Bart Deeley and Lt. Greg Dean helped oversee the investigation in the borough, Wildman said.

Police from Middlebury, Naugatuck and Watertown often work together to target drug sales along the Route 63 corridor, Wildman said.

“We just target it because it’s a busy area,” Wildman said.
