NAUGATUCK — A Bridgeport man is facing a home invasion charge after police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and assaulted her new boyfriend.

Police said Jose Navarro, 28, broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home at 108 Lorann Drive early on New Year’s Day. He walked into the room where the new boyfriend was sleeping and started to assault him with his fists and with a bottle.

The boyfriend, who was not identified, suffered injuries to his temple, and had a one-inch cut on his right middle finger after defending himself from a broken bottle, police said.

Lt. Brian Cammarata said Navarro had lived at the home. Cammarata said Navarro was identified by witnesses, including his ex-girlfriend, as the assailant. The ex-girlfriend told police that Navarro had family in Bridgeport. Naugatuck and Bridgeport police had been looking for Navarro.

Cammarata said Bridgeport police arrested Navarro on Friday night and notified Naugatuck, which sent officers to pick him up.

Navarro was charged with home invasion and assault. He was held on $100,000 bond by Naugatuck police over the weekend.

His bond was raised to $175,000 at his arraignment Monday at Waterbury Superior Court.
