NAUGATUCK — Police warn that a couple of serial burglars may be running free in the area.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said he believes that may be true because descriptions of suspects and their actions in three area convenience store burglaries are eerily similar.

The latest incident occurred at 1 a.m. Dec. 11 when two men brandishing handguns walked into the Cumberland Farms convenience store at 527 North Main St. and demanded money

One suspect told a store clerk to empty the register and then stole two cartons of cigarettes, along with an undisclosed amount of money, Cammarata said.

The other forced a store clerk to the ground and stole $50 in cash from the clerk’s pocket, he said.

Nobody was injured, and the suspects drove off without incident.

The suspects are described as black males — one is about 6 feet, 5 inches tall; the other is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall — dressed in dark clothing.

Suspects matching a similar description are believed to have robbed a Valero gas station convenience store in Waterbury that same night, Cammarata said.

The Naugatuck Cumberland Farms robbery is also similar to one that occurred in Naugatuck on the night of Nov. 17, he said. That was when the Indtur Gas Station at 531 North Main St., next door to the Cumberland Farms, was robbed at gunpoint by two men matching the description of suspects in the Dec. 11 robbery.

Both cases remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents is asked to call the Naugatuck Police Department at (203) 729-7106.
