CNLogo1NAUGATUCK — The Board of Mayor and Burgesses sent a plan for an AT&T cell tower on the borough-owned Heights Property behind the Spring Street police station to the Planning Commission Dec. 2 for review.

The company was also considering a location on top of Town Hall, according to Borough Engineer Wayne Zirolli, but the Heights property looks better.

The proposed monopole would be a few hundred feet from any other structures, Zirolli said. The nearest residences are houses down the hill on Spring Street and a condo village to the north.

“This is at least fairly well away and shielding from residential properties,” Zirolli said.

The last time a wireless transmitter was proposed on town property in 2011, parents came out in droves to protest the plan to put the equipment on top of Maple Hill Elementary School. That contract was eventually dropped in the face of the opposition.

The borough already has 10 cell phone towers and six radio towers, according to Republican-American archives.
