NAUGATUCK — Autumn will be in full swing in the borough this weekend.

The Parks and Recreation Department is holding its first Hayride Event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Andrew Mountain Park off of Andrew Mountain Road.

The event features free hayrides for visitors around the park. There will also be refreshments for sale and a pumpkin decorating table. There will be a limited number of pumpkins for purchase so event-goers are encouraged to bring their own.

There will also be a Doggie Costume Contest at the dog park at Andrew Mountain Park from 1 to 2 p.m. There is no fee to enter the contest and the top five costumes will receive prizes.

The rain date for both events is Oct. 14.

Public Works secretary Emily Osterberg said the event is meant to be fun and showcase what the borough has to offer at Andrew Mountain Park.

“People think it is just a dog park. It’s not. There are a lot of hidden gems up there. There are hiking trails, a community garden, old farm roads and a couple ponds,” Osterberg said.
