BEACON FALLS — A local woman was displaced from her mobile home on First Street on Saturday afternoon after a stove fire spread to the rest of her unit causing extensive damage, fire officials said.

The homeowner, who wasn’t identified, will be staying with family locally, said Jeremy Rodorigo, spokesman for Beacon Hose Company No. 1.

Neither the woman nor firefighters were injured in the fire at 9 First St., he said.

The homeowner who was baking in the oven called the fire in at 2:48 p.m. and immediately left the home, Rodorigo said. It came in as a stove fire, but then turned into a mobile home fire, he said.

About 30 firefighters responded including Seymour and Oxford fire departments, he said. They had the fire knocked down within 15 minutes, Rodorigo said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to have started in the oven, he said.

Rodorigo said the kitchen and living room were destroyed, with a lot of fire and smoke damage throughout the unit.

The mobile home is tightly packed among other mobile units inside the Gendron Mobile Home Park off South Main Street by the Seymour town line, but the fire did not advance to any other unit, he said.
