WATERBURY — An Orange man was sentenced to nine months in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to attempting to meet who he thought was an underage Naugatuck girl for sex.

Christopher Driscoll, 39, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree sexual assault in Waterbury Superior Court as part of a plea deal that calls for him to serve the mandatory minimum prison time for the crime.

Police said he chatted online six times with undercover Naugatuck Det. Ronald Blanchard, who was posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Driscoll attempted to meet the “girl” in the borough, but was arrested by police on Feb. 9, instead.

Driscoll was considered to be a “traveler,” someone who goes beyond chatting with underage girls online and actually meets them. He didn’t comment when given the opportunity Monday.

Driscoll will also have to serve 10 years of probation and register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.
