Two local officers were honored with medals for lifesaving from the Connecticut State Police during a ceremony Dec. 12 at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden.

Prospect Police Officer Erno Nandori was honored for actions he took to help a tree removal company worker with a life-threatening cut to his leg in July.

On July 3, Nandori was working a highway construction project on Route 69 in Bethany, state police said in a release. A tree removal company worker notified Nandori that a co-worker had severely cut his leg with a chainsaw while trimming back brush.

Nandori responded to the victim who hobbled to the street, state police said. He saw a severe, 8-inch cut to the man’s lower leg, retrieved his medical kit and applied direct pressure to stop the bleeding, police said. Authorities said due to Nandori’s immediate action, the man survived the life-threatening cut.

Beacon Falls Police Officer Caroline O’Bar earned the medal for her response to a report of an agitated male.

At 7:09 p.m. on May 23, O’Bar responded to a report of an agitated male at a home in Beacon Falls, state police said. When she arrived, O’Bar found the man unconscious and not breathing, police said.

O’Bar immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used an automated external defibrillator until the man’s pulse was regained, state police said. Beacon Falls EMS arrived and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

State police said the man survived this life-threatening event due to O’Bar’s actions.
