NAUGATUCK — A borough police officer injured his ankle Monday while running after two people involved in a domestic dispute outside police headquarters.

A man and a woman were apparently involved in a domestic altercation at about noon in the parking lot of the police station at 211 Spring St., said Lt. Robert Harrison, who did not provide more details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Dispatchers saw the fight on camera and alerted Officer Nicholas Kehoss, who went outside to investigate. As Kehoss approached, the man and woman got in their car and drove away quickly, Harrison said.

Kehoss chased the car down a steep embankment leading to Spring Street, where his ankle gave way and he fell, unable to stand, Harrison said. More officers had come running out of the building, and they called an ambulance for Kehoss, Harrison said.

Kehoss, 25, was being evaluated Monday afternoon at Waterbury Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not yet known. He has been a borough officer for almost two years.
