Yolan (Benedek) Forish

NAUGATUCK — Yolan (Benedek) Forish, age 90, widow of George L. Forish, passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS unit.

Mrs. Forish was born in Czechoslovakia on Feb. 5, 1927, daughter of the late Paul and Helen Benedek. She came to this country and settled in Naugatuck at the age of 12. For 50 years, she and her husband owned Central Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, then Naugatuck.

Yolan, affectionately known as “Mrs. Boomer,” was well known for her cooking, baking, and her gracious hospitality. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Waterbury, and she was an avid gardener and lover of music.

She is survived by her beloved daughter and caregiver, Linda Yoos and her partner, John Riebe, of Naugatuck; her grandsons, Darren Yoos and his fiancé, Tess Segalla, of North Canaan, Brennan Yoos of Watertown, and Michael “Boomer” Forish and Amelia of Naugatuck; her great -grandchildren, Hunter and Hailey; her sisters, Anna Brodi of Fresh Meadows, Long Island, N.Y., and Magda Geida and her husband, Chester, of Torrington; her sisters-in-law, Mary Wasula and Harriet Forish of Naugatuck; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Forish was predeceased by her son, David “Boomer” Forish.

A graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury, on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 12 p.m. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
