BEACON FALLS — Mr. Walter A. Mis, 91, of Beacon Falls, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at Paradigm Health Center of Prospect. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Gorski) Mis.
Mr. Mis was born in Beacon Falls on Aug. 15, 1922, a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Adamczyk) Mis. He was a lifelong resident of Beacon Falls and a Navy veteran serving during World War II. He retired after 44 years of service from the Footwear Division of Uniroyal, Inc. and also worked at various other companies including Sikorsky Aircraft and Scovil Manufacturing. He was a member of the Beacon Falls Senior Center and restarted Boy Scout Troop 104. He was a member of the American Legion for 65 years where served as past commander. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Men’s Club, the St. Michael Prayer Group, and participated in the Connecticut Rosary Rally for 25 years. Walter will be remembered as a giving individual who put the needs of others before himself.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves his sons, Fred Mis and his wife, Nancy, of Fairfield, Bill Mis and his wife, Sue, of Beacon Falls with whom he made his home; daughter, Justine Mis and her husband, John Haynie, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; sister, Ann Jalowiec of Seymour; grandchildren, Benjamin Mis and his wife, Maritza, Jason Mis and his wife, Kerry, Emily Marsillio and her husband, Evan, Stephen Mis and John Michael Mis; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Teofil Mis, and sister, Julia Baukas.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff of VITAS Hospice and Paradigm Health Center for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Walter and his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on a date to be announced at St. Michael Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
