NAUGATUCK — Waldimar “Wally” Gruenwald, 65, passed away suddenly at Waterbury Hospital on Friday, March 3, 2017.

Wally was born in Narva, Estonia on Aug. 20, 1951, son of the late Gustav and Nina (Tuikkel) Gruenwald, coming to America as a pre-teen. Spending most of his life in Naugatuck, he recently retired from Hubbard Hall in Waterbury after 46 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Naugatuck and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Wally was a devout patriot who truly loved this country.

Wally is survived by his children, Sarah Gruenwald of Cheshire, and Erik Gruenwald and his wife, Janet, of Colorado; his twin sister, Marina Mooney and her husband, Steve; his two grandchildren, Salvatore Ippolito and Emily Gruenwald; his aunt, Anna Gruenwald; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Ella Gruenwald Jackman, and his loving companion, Patricia.

Visitation for Mr. Gruenwald will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Naugatuck, followed by burial in Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 350 Millville Ave., Naugatuck.
