PROSPECT — Thomas Charles Beard, 76, of Prospect, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at Arden Court in Hamden surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was the husband of Jean (Schieffer) Beard.

Mr. Beard was born in Waterbury on April 20, 1939, a son to the late Charles A. and Agnes (Beauchaine) Beard. He attended Bunker Hill Grammar School, was a 1957 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, having earned a degree in engineering, and was retired from Unisys Corporation where he had worked as a manufacturing engineer for many years. He was the owner of Atlantic Lawn Mower Parts. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect and a member of the Prospect Senior Center.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from Oct. 9, 1959 to Sept. 27, 1963 and was member of the American Legion Post 194.

In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by daughters, Michele Smallidge and her husband, Michael, of South Salem, N.Y. and Melissa Lawlor and her husband, Tom, of Prospect; sons, Mark Beard and his wife, Lisa, of Prospect and Matthew Beard and his wife, Lynn Paulella-Beard, of Harwinton; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Beard of Prospect; brothers, David Beard and Gary Beard; nine grandchildren, Amber Beard, Lucas Smallidge, Lily Smallidge, Thomas Lawlor, Jack Lawlor, Brooke Beard, Kasey Beard, Vivian Beard and Gavin Beard. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Beard.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect for a Mass at 10 a.m. Military honors will be presented at the church immediately following mass. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m.
