NAUGATUCK — Ruth A. Kirk, 95, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018 at VITAS, St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Franklin C. Kirk.

Mrs. Kirk was born Sept. 9, 1922 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Sweeney) Anderson. She was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. She graduated from Naugatuck High School and continued her education at The Pratt Institute in New York. Upon graduation she was employed by The Bristol Babcock Company in Waterbury. She was a parishioner of the Congregational Church of Naugatuck. She was a great seamstress, she loved to travel, read and play bridge, but most importantly spend time with her family. She was an active volunteer for the local food bank, the Red Cross and the Congregational Church clothier.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Hunt and her husband, Thomas, of Naugatuck; her son, Bruce Kirk and his wife, Jean, of Naugatuck; her grandchildren, Thomas Hunt and his wife, Tracey, and their son, Thomas, Ronald Hunt and his wife, Rose, and their children, Ryan and Alexis, Steven Hunt and his wife, Johnna, and their children Taylor, Jordyn and Sydney, Laura Kirk and her children, Livia and Leo Sarnelli, Jason Kirk and his wife, Becky, and their children Jarred and Emilia; her cousin, Florence Cassidy, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kirk is predeceased by her son, Alan Kirk; her brother, Stuart Anderson, and her longtime companion, George Van Vessem.

Mrs. Kirk’s family would like to offer special thanks to Shirley Gugliemli, Fior Fernandez, the Minicucci family and the staff of VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassion and kindness.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Alderson-Ford Funeral home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the start of the service at 7 p.m.
