BEACON FALLS — Peter I. Griswold, 76, husband of the late Barbara (Calhoun) Griswold, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS Unit.
Peter was born in Milford on Jan. 26 1941, son of the late Leslie and Elsie Griswold. He graduated from Milford High School in 1959.
He entered the United States Coast Guard after high school and proudly served until 1965 at which time he was honorably discharged. Peter retired from Sikorski Aircraft after 30 years of service. He was a car enthusiast and built an electric vehicle in 1974 during the oil embargo that he drove every day for three years to and from Sikorski. He spent his last seven years restoring a 1937 Chevy Coupe that he was extremely proud of. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Beacon Falls.
Peter is survived by his sons, Michael Griswold of Beacon Falls, and David Griswold and his wife, Beth, of Milford; his grandchildren, Khrysty Mark and her husband, Dylan, Stephany Griswold and Nik Griswold. He was predeceased by his brother, Mark, as well as his beloved parrot of 50 years, Kiki Bird.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald- Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
