Mary (Forish) Wasula

Mary (Forish) Wasula passed away on Oct. 22, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was 97 years old.

Mary was born on June 24, 1921 in Naugatuck to her parents, Mary (Fuska) and George Forish. She attended school in Naugatuck. She was married to her loving husband Steven Wasula, who moved from Albany, N.Y. to settle down with her in Naugatuck.

Mary worked for Uniroyal and meticulously maintained her home all her life. She was always out in her yard mowing the lawn, taking care of flowers and her vegetable garden. If it wasn’t for her arthritis she would have still been out there gardening last week. Mary provided home care to her mother and then her husband for many years.

She was truly a selfless person. Although Mary had no children of her own, she was very close to her nieces and nephews and was loved by all of them. She provided after school child care. She was very wise and always provided her ear and advice to all of them. Mary was very sharp minded until the end and very healthy excluding her arthritis. We contribute this to healthy living, lots of chocolate and being serenaded by her husband’s superb saxophone playing.

Mary is survived by her nephew and godchild, Charles Forish Jr., niece Linda (Forish) Yoos; great-nephews, Charles Forish III, John Forish, Michael Forish, Darren Yoos, Brennan Yoos; and sister-in-law, Harriet Forish.

Mary will have a graveside service on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury. All are welcome to attend. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
