BURLINGTON — Lillian Stella Sylvia, 90, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Nanticoke, Pa. on Jan. 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Romanowski) Bednarek, Lillian was raised and educated in Nanticoke, where she graduated as valedictorian from Huntington Mills High School.

She worked for many years as a supervisor for Uniroyal in Naugatuck before returning to school at Mattatuck College. She obtained her associate’s degree in business and marketing and worked at Waterbury Hospital, where she was the supervisor of housekeeping.

She retired in 1998 and moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to live for 10 years. She returned to Connecticut and lived in Waterbury for many years.

Lillian was an avid reader, she enjoyed cross stitch and puzzles and was a very social person who thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people.

However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and all their accomplishments.

She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn E. Morse (Ken) of Burlington and Judith L. Cox (Phil) of Myrtle Beach; her brothers, Martin Bednarek (Joyce) of Pennsylvania and Joseph Bednarek of Connecticut; her sisters, Carolyn Reider (David) and Patricia Dent of Pennsylvania; her 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Mullen; her sisters, Rosemary Johnson, Phyllis Cross, Elizabeth Bednarek; and her brother, Richard Bednarek.

Lillian’s family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Lillian during her illness.

Lillian’s family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A service will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
