SOUTHBURY — Kathleen Slason, 71, died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathleen was born on Jan. 19, 1944 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Howard Slason, Sr., and Catherine (Wargo) Slason. In July 1952, at the age of 8, she came to live at Southbury Training School.

Kathleen enjoyed music, concerts, interactive activities, scenic rides, trips to the park, and was involved in several day programs, most recently an in-home program, which provided various leisure activities as well as the opportunity for short community trips. Kathleen was well cared for by the loving staff at STS. Her family would like to thank the residential and medical staff at Southbury Training School for their compassionate care. She will be missed by her family, friends, and staff persons who have had the pleasure of knowing her.

Kathleen is survived by her brother, Howard Slason and his wife, Patricia, of Prospect; her brother, Michael Slason of Naugatuck; her sister, Mary Beth Vaughan of Waterbury; several nieces and nephews; her dear friends, Emily and Denise, and her many caregivers who worked with her over the years.

Burial will be private in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. A memorial service at Southbury Training School is planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
