PROSPECT — Josephine C. Collins, 101, the devoted wife of the late Peter A. Collins, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at Glendale Center in Naugatuck. She was supported during her last days by the caring staff at Glendale, Season’s Hospice & Palliative Care, and her family.

Josephine was born on Sept. 1, 1915 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Clifford and Claribel (Shepard) Clark, and had lived in Prospect for most of her life. She worked at the Scovill Manufacturing Company in the central time office for approximately 30 years. Josephine was a dedicated, active member of the Prospect Congregational Church, serving as treasurer for 60 years. She was adept at needle work, designing beautifully knitted and crotched creations for the annual Church Bazaar and other displays. Josephine shared her creativity by teaching others her craft through group classes at the Prospect Senior Center, as well as individual in-home sessions. Josephine also enjoyed gardening. Her yard was filled with a colorful array of flowers, admired by all who stopped by. In addition, she was devoted to family and friends, always available to help others. In particular, she committed time to assist those who did not drive, providing transportation to appointments, the grocery store, and social engagements.

Josephine is survived by her sister, Gertrude “Trudy” Pierpont of Prospect; her nieces, Barbara Duffy and Cindy Barrere; her nephew, Ron Pierpont, and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Clark, and her niece, Pat Burns Gatewood.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Prospect Congregational Church, 25 Center St., Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
