MIDDLEBURY — Joseph B. “JB” Knowles, 71, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Adrienne (Marrone) Knowles who passed away last September.

Joe was born Oct. 16, 1946 in Waterbury, the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Roberts) Knowles of Naugatuck. He was a Vietnam War era veteran in the U.S. Navy. He was a purchasing agent for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 2000. He was an active volunteer with the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department, winning a lifesaving award in the late 1970’s. He also served as a volunteer and founding member of the Naugatuck Volunteer Ambulance Corp. as well as a member of the Naugatuck Volunteer Fire Department. He was an emergency medical technician for many years with Waterbury Ambulance/Medstar Ambulance.

Joe was a member of the Catholic War Veterans; American Legion Post 17 as well as the Naugatuck Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Besides his mother, Joe is survived by his sons, Edward Knowles and his wife, Katherine, of Massachusetts, and Sean Knowles of Middlebury; his brothers, Brian Knowles and Kevin Knowles, both of Naugatuck; his grandchildren, Edward, Nevaeh, Rose, Hunter, Darby and Isabelle.

Funeral services for Joe will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 with the funeral procession leaving the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., at 10:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Naugatuck Ancient Order of Hibernians will assemble at the funeral home Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.
