NAUGATUCK — Janice M. Duffy, 71, the wife of Thomas D. Duffy, died peacefully on Friday morning, Dec. 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born on Oct. 27, 1945 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Edgar L. and Emma G. (Livingston) Masone and graduated from Croft High School. She later set off on a road trip adventure for the West Coast, and lived and worked in San Diego, Calif., before moving back to Waterbury, where she married and started her family. A true entrepreneur, Jan was the co-owner of Jans’ Country Corner as well as a consultant with Princess House Crystal.

Jan was a devoted homemaker who loved to cook for and take care of her family. She was an avid NY Yankee fan and she loved to travel to St. Maarten with her husband. Jan always told it like it was and kept everyone in line, but her sense of humor and compassion for others softened her toughness. Jan was a dog lover and was fond of reminiscing about family pets, Mickey and Sammy. She was always quick to defend those less fortunate and was a passionate supporter of U.S. veterans and our active military troops.

In addition to her husband Tom, Jan is survived by her sons, Christopher Duffy and his wife, Christine, of Southington, and Jonathan Duffy and his fiancée, Christine Garbus, of West Haven; her daughter, Karen O’Leary and Mike Marchand of Waterford; her grandchildren, Katelynn and Lauren Duffy and J.P. O’Leary and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jan was predeceased by her brother, Edgar Masone.

Jan’s family would like to thank the caring staff at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care at St. Mary’s Hospital, who helped her pass in comfort and with dignity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Those planning to attend are asked to please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
