NAUGATUCK — Miss Irene Elizabeth Kuraitis, 85, of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 27, 2014 at the VITAS Hospice unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Miss Kuraitis was born in Waterbury, May 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Mazelka) Kuraitis and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana. She was employed by the Waterbury Hospital assecretary to the administrator prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterbury.
She leaves one sister, Ruth Schweitzer of Deep River and one nephew, Donald E. Schweitzer of Deep River and one niece, Karen (Hessinger) Kuchinsskas of New Milford. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Hessinger.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., with the Rev. Joel D. Kotila officiating.
