NAUGATUCK — Henry C. Kuczenski, Sr., 78, of 310 North Hoadley St., the husband of Christine (Lowe) Kuczenski, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital.
Mr. Kuczenski was born on Oct. 20, 1937 in Naugatuck, the son of the late Henry and Helen (Burava) Kuczenski, and was a Naugatuck resident for most of his life.

Mr. Kuczenski was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1954 to 1958 as a military police officer in Germany and Alaska with the 12th AF and (SAC). He was a retired Naugatuck police officer, having served for 30 years as a detective, fire arson investigator in the Fire Marshal’s Office, where he served as fire marshal after the death of John “Jack” Sullivan, and as a patrol officer, retiring in 1993. For the past three years, Mr. Kuczenski worked as a security officer at City Hill Middle School. He was a member of the Naugatuck Lodge B.P.O.Elks #967 for over 50 years, he was a life member of V.F.W. Crusader Post 1946 and he was a past member of the Peter J. Foley Little League. He was a former member of the Naugatuck Junior Football League, and prior to its disbanding, Hank ran the league for over 10 years. He was also a past member of Cub Scout Pack 102 and Joe Triano’s Y.M.C.A. Boxing Class. He was also a past member of the Connecticut Fire Marshals Association and the Police Association of Connecticut. He also served for six years in the 1960s as a Connecticut auxiliary state police officer, and after his retirement he worked as a school crossing guard at St. Francis School for 20 years. Mr. Kuczenski also served the Borough of Naugatuck as a burgess.

Besides his wife of 48 years, he leaves two sons, Shawn Henry Kuczenski and his wife Karen Kuczenski, and Henry C. “Jay” Kuczenski and his wife Sue Kuczenski all of Naugatuck; and he was predeceased by his daughter, Stacy Lynn Kuczenski; his six grandchildren, whom he loved so very much, Michael, Amber, Brandon, Tyler, Shealynn and Alex, all of Naugatuck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours with Naugatuck Police Departmental Honors will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the Naugatuck Elks will perform a ritual Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
