BEACON FALLS — Gilbert George Ely, Jr., 71, of Beacon Falls, died peacefully at his home on Oct. 8, 2018. Born in St. Albans, Vt. on Oct. 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Gilbert G. and Madeline Blow Ely, Sr.
Mr. Ely worked in manufacturing as a machinist and tool and die maker for many years, until the time of his retirement. A natural mechanical disposition provided for his special talent in repairing most anything. He enjoyed photography, stamp and coin collecting, attending flea markets and collecting unique and antique treasures. Mr. Ely loved animals, especially dogs, and will be missed by all his poker buddies.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Jessica) Ely of Hamden; sister, Marie Boylan; brother, Carl Ely; sister-in-law, Katherine Ely; nephews, Joe, David and John Boylan, Frank Ely, Jr., Carl Ely, Jr., James and Joseph Hink, Ronald, Thomas, David and Richard Michel; and nieces, Mary Ballard, Karen Petrosky, JoAnne Dahn, Christine Tesla, Sharon Ely, Penny Rose, Pamela Gonzalez, Natalie Panza, Verna Lee Annacelli, Jody Anastasion, and Donna and Debora Hink.; grandchildren, Taylor G. Gary of Southington, Jakob M. Meehan of Hamden, Logan R. Ely of Hamden and Trent S. Ely of Hamden. He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine G. Ely, and a son, Gilbert George Ely, III.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m., prior to the service.
