George A. Malm Jr.

PROSPECT — Mr. George A. Malm, Jr., 86, of Prospect, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Janice B. (Deeves) Malm.

Mr. Malm was born June 20, 1930 in Woodland, Maine, a son of the late George A. Malm, Sr. and the late Tillie K. (Erickson) Malm. He retired from Brunalli Construction located in Southington, where he worked and traveled as an operating engineer for 40 years. He was a proud union member of the Operating Engineer IUOE Local 478 for over 61 years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing, camping and hunting and most of all vacationing with his family at their cottage on Stoner Lake in New York.

Mr. Malm proudly served his country as a member of the United States National Guard and Army and was a member of the American Legion in Prospect.

Mr. Malm is survived by a daughter, Sue Wilson of Southbury; two sons, Jeff Malm and his wife, Claudia, of Safford, Ariz., and George Malm III of Prospect; two brothers, Paul Malm of Florida and Dale Malm of Alaska; three grandchildren, Corrisa Malm-Bamford and her husband, Joe, of Safford, Ariz., Brittany Malm of Austin, Texas and Jodi (Wilson) Cihal of Oakville; two great-grandchildren, Kacey Mastropietro and Michael Cihal, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Malm, and two brothers, Ronald Malm and Gary Malm.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The V.F.W. Post 8075 Hall, 218 Cheshire Road, Prospect. Burial with full military honors will be in Prospect Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at the VFW Hall on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

The Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South, Southbury is in charge of arrangements.
