NAUGATUCK — Gary Alan Richardson, 76, son of Oscar E and Lydia A Richardson, native of Naugatuck and resident of Tiburon, Calif., died early Monday, Oct. 31 at The Hearth of Southbury after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Richardson is survived by his brother, Robert H Richardson and his wife, Edith, of Watertown; his niece, Nancy Richardson and fiancé, Timothy (Mac) McKernon, of Middlebury; his niece, Karen Kirk of Southington; a niece, Rita Garfield of Los Gatos, Calif., as well as a daughter and two grandchildren in California.

A native of Naugatuck, Mr. Richardson lived his adult life in the San Francisco Bay area where he was a sales executive and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed researching the family’s Swedish ancestry and was an active member of the Scandinavian Club in Lake Tahoe and Clearlake, Calif. His exuberant personality and legendary storytelling capabilities were in tact until the end of his life.

At Gary’s request, the burial in Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck will be private and at the family’s convenience. The family wishes to thank Beth Buzzanco and the staff in the Keepsake Village at The Hearth of Southbury and VITAS hospice for their care and support as well as Rachel Hallgarth for her extraordinary efforts in California and on Gary’s journey to Connecticut. The Alderson-Ford Funeral home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.
