NAUGATUCK — Gabriel Almeida, 91, passed Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Barboza) Almeida.
Mr. Almeida was born March 26, 1924 in New Bedford, Mass., the son of the late Antone and Augusta (Sylvia) Almeida. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he was employed as a mason for various different construction companies.
Mr. Almeida is survived by his sons, David Almeida and his wife, Judy, of Emerald Isle, N.C., Gary Almeida and his wife, Rhonda, of Raynham, Mass., and Thomas Santos and his wife, Sandy, of Prospect; his sister, Nancy Mello of Somerset, Mass.; his cousin, Joe Silva and his wife, Laura, of Waterbury; his grandchildren, David and Nancy Almeida, with whom he made his home, Daniel Almeida, Carrie Haskett, Jennifer Webb and Steven Costa; his great-grandson, Leo; as well as his dog, Natty.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St.
