BEACON FALLS — Frank “Rinky” DelVecchio, 92, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Beacon Brook Healthcare in Naugatuck. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Hodio) DelVecchio for 66 years.
Frank was born on Oct. 3, 1921 in Beacon Falls, a son of the late Anthony and Josephine (Esposito) DelVecchio. Frank was a World War II Army veteran and a survivor of the first wave attack on Omaha Beach on D-Day and also two other campaigns.
He was retired from the Town of Beacon Falls, where he worked as street superintendent for more than 50 years. He was appointed special cop and tree warden by the Town of Beacon Falls for several years. He was also a member of the VFW.
He was a volunteer with the Beacon Hose Company No. 1 for more than 60 years. He was an officer with Beacon Hose for 20 years and fire chief from 1976 to 1981.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula Balanda of Beacon Falls; one son, Frank D. DelVeccho and his wife Kate of Middlebury; one sister, Jean DiClementi and her husband Domenic; one granddaughter, Amy Karpovich; and two grandsons, Frank DelVecchio Jr. and his wife Shawna of Seymour, and Antonio DelVecchio of Maine.
He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren, Mason and Jaxon Karpovich, Angelina and Gabriella DelVecchio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was also predeceased by a grandson, David Balanda; one sister, Josephine Fuoco; and three brothers, Albert, Anthony and Pat DelVecchio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. Friends are asked to please meet directly at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in St James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Callings hours will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
The veterans will meet at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. to perform services.
