Obituary: Francis S. Cannizzo

NAUGATUCK — Francis S. “Frank” Cannizzo, 89, husband of Vincenza (Pilaro) Cannizzo, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.

Mr. Cannizzo was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 12, 1927, son of the late Giovanni and Rosa (Lombardi) Cannizzo. He attended Cooper Union College in Manhattan and had lived in Naugatuck for many years. Frank owned Regency Architectual Metals and served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in Naugatuck, and Building Committee of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. He enjoyed assisting the elderly and served on the Council for Aging in Waterbury. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Unites States Army.

Besides his loving wife of 65 years, Francis is survived by his children, Rose-Anne Chrzanowski of Naugatuck, John Cannizzo and his wife, Pamela, and Joseph Cannizzo, all of Manhattan, N.Y, and Francis Cannizzo and his wife, Susan, of Longmeadow, Mass.; his eight grandchildren; and his two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna Spallino; and his son-in-law, Raymond Chrzanowski.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
