WATERBURY — Ewa Wabiszczewicz, 92, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday June 23, 2015 with her daughters at her side. She was widow of Walter Wabiszczewicz.

Ewa was born in Plotnica, Poland on Aug. 22, 1922, daughter of the late Grzegorz and Ewdokia (Niekraszewicz) Wabiszczewicz. She survived Stalin’s and Hitler’s invasions and occupation of Poland and emigrated to France in 1945 due to the partition of Poland. In 1960, she emigrated to the U.S. to pursue and achieve the American dream.

She and her late husband Walter of 67 years lived in Waterbury and were blessed with great neighbors. She worked at Waterbury Garment Factory retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Polish National Alliance Lodge 283 and was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Ewa was a great cook and baker. She enjoyed gardening, family and friend gatherings. She also enjoyed a tradition of Cape Cod family vacations, trips to friends in Canada, Florida and Las Vegas.

She leaves three children, Maria Cura, Yolande Jackson and her husband, William, and attorney John Wabiszczewicz and his wife, Carol, all of Middlebury; five grandchildren, Martina Cura, Robert Cura and his wife, Kristine, Jaimie Cura, Lisa Wabiszczewicz and her husband, Noah Schwartz, and John Wabiszczewicz II and his wife, Brianna; nine great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Nicole, Tiffany, Samantha, and Austin Cura, Zachary and Eva Schwartz, and Linnea and Natalia Wabiszczewicz. She was predeceased by her sisters, Najda Kaczanoski and Antonina Szpakowski.

The family is grateful for the care and support given by the staff and wonderful aides at Hartford Health Care at Home Services Hospice, especially Kathy, Maureen and Karen.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 100 East Farm St., Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, Watertown.
Calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
