NAUGATUCK — Emily M. (Poplawski) Nitowski Mrazik, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Mrazik was born in Hudson, Pa. on June 4, 1921, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Cudnowski) Poplawski. A longtime resident of Naugatuck, she retired from Bradlees Department store in Waterbury after almost 30 years of service. Emily was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she served in the parish Altar Society, sang in the church choir, worked at bingo, and made baptismal gowns for many years.
She enjoyed cooking, crafting, quilting, Swedish weaving, and especially spending time with her family. Emily also spent many winters in Englewood, Fla.
Mrs. Mrazik is survived by her son, Ronald Nitowski and his wife Jackie of Noblesville, Ind.; her daughters, Diane Santopietro and her husband John of Wolcott, and Janice Donahue of Cheshire; seven grandchildren, Christine Brown, Cindy Cipriano, Jason Brown, Sarah Gruenwald, Erik Gruenwald, Michael and Scott Nitowski; and seven great-grandchildren, with one expected in May. She was predeceased by her husbands, Frank Nitowski and John F. Mrazik; her granddaughter, Carolyn M. Brown; and her son-in-law, Kevin Donahue.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
