NAUGATUCK — Doris Ardry, 93, the widow of Bernard C. Ardry, Sr., died peacefully on Jan. 8, 2018 at Glendale Center surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on Dec. 21, 1924 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Eugene and Kathryn (Lorigan) Gladding, and had lived in Naugatuck for most of her life. Doris formerly worked at the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. and at O.T.B. on Bank Street in Waterbury. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and was a member of the Parish Council, the Altar Guild and the Liturgy Committee. Doris was a past president and chaplain of the V.F.W. Crusader Post 1946 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Post 17 Ladies Auxiliary, the first queen mother of the Naugatuck Chapter of the Red Hatters and was an active member of the Naugatuck Senior Center. Doris was a member of the Naugatuck Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and she served as Irish Mayor for the Day.

Doris is survived by her son, Bernard C. Ardry, Jr., and his wife, Jacqueline, of Bridgeport; her daughters, Joyce Luzio and her husband, Manny, of Naugatuck, Carol Harnish of Augusta, Maine, and Diane Dutton and her husband, Dave, of Waterbury; her son-in-law, Douglas Kauffman of Farmingdale, N.J.; her seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Doris was predeceased by her daughter, Kathryn Kauffman; her son-in-law, Del Wyman, and her brothers, Elmer and Eugene Gladding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Ladies A.O.H. will meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for a Prayer Service.
